Raising Dough: Larkin Street Youth Services

8 Jun

Our Raising Dough campaign each month is off to a goods start.  In May we chose the Raphael House as our partner organization, a family shelter just down the street.  They have an amazing program for getting families who have found themselves homeless back on their feet.  We (you) collected $171 in our donation box, and so we will be matching that for a total donation of $342.  Thank you, thank you!!

For June, we’ve chosen the Larkin Street Youth Services.  Just a jump down the street from Raphael House, the LSYS is a safe haven for homeless kids under 24 years of age.  It’s a supportive environment with all kinds of services to get the kids in a better place in life and off of the street.  I stopped by this week to see the facility on Larkin Street (they have a few locations around the city).  It’s quite an operation with a kitchen to provide breakfast, lunch and dinner to the kids, cozy couches, an education room, clothing “closet”, and much more.

This month, we’re giving back in three ways.  First, we’re collecting donations in our box on our community board in the bakery (see pic above).  Second, we’re volunteering as a group to make lunch for the kids on June 10th.  Normally, we’d open up this opportunity to all of you, but we’ve already filled this spaces.  Finally, we’ll be collecting canned and non-perishable foods at Flour + Co to donate to LSYS.  So, drop off your food donations between 6:30am and 6pm any day of the week during the month of June.

If you can’t get involved via Flour + Co, there are so many ways to get involved directly.  See the facility once and you’ll be hooked!  Donate your clothing, especially men’s clothing, housewares, books, non-perishable food, money or your time.

Thank you for continuing to support our monthly cause.  It just wouldn’t be the same if it weren’t a group effort.  We love being a part of the neighborhood and are so happy to be giving back in our own little way!
