Raising Dough (and Giving Thanks): SF Food Bank

For our October Raising Dough campaign, we’ve been collecting change for Project Open Hand, right in our back yard.  We raised $89 from you and are matching it for a total donation of $178.  Project Open Hand has a  wonderful mission of providing nutritious food to elders and those critically ill, so thank you so much for your change and support!

Every month is a special month when it comes to Raising Dough. However, there’s something extra special about doing something good for our community in November.  It’s the month of giving thanks, after all.  We’ve got so many things to be thankful for at Flour & Co, collectively as a team.  We’ve also got a bountiful array of delicious food and treats at our fingertips each day.  Hence, teaming up with the SF Food Bank for our November Raising Dough couldn’t be a better partnership!

Ending hunger in San Francisco and Marin is the simple mission of the SF Food Bank.  How are they accomplishing this mission and impacting people each day?  Well, they say it best (taken from their website)…

This is the impact the Food Bank will have in this year alone:

  • 225,000 people will be nourished through our programs
  • 45 million pounds of food will be delivered throughout San Francisco and Marin, more than half of it fresh produce direct from the farm
  • 100,000 meals worth of food will be distributed each and every day
  • 30,000 families will receive wholesome foods at our pantries each week
  • 11,000 children will be served fresh, healthy snacks in the classroom each school day
  • 450 nonprofit partners will rely on us to supply their meal and food programs
  • 230 farmer’s market-style pantries will provide foods people can use to prepare healthy meals in their own homes

Drop your change or dollars in our community board donation box or drop a canned food item in the bucket, and be a part of making an impact this month.

We’re also volunteering as a group on Tuesday, November 12 from 12:30-3:30.  If you’d like to join us, send an email to info@flourandco.com!  If you can’t join us, take a trip on your own some time.  It’s a rewarding few hours!
