Raising Dough: Flour & Co and Larkin Street Youth Services 2014

15 Aug

Last month we featured the Mary Elizabeth Inn (just in our backyard) as our Raising Dough organization.  With summer here, our donation box in the bakery was a bit thin, but we did manage to raise $45, making for a $90 donation with Flour & Co matching.  In addition, two of our team members volunteered last week as part of our campaign (we forgot to take a picture!).  They helped distribute food to the women shoppers that came in to gather fruit and vegetables, canned goods, and drinks.  As always, the volunteering portion is a favorite part of Raising Dough as it is a meaningful and hands on way to experience and fully understand the heart of the organization.

For August, we’ve chosen the Larkin Street Youth Services.  We featured LSYS last year,as well, and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to recognize this wonderful neighborhood organization again.  The LSYS is a safe haven for homeless kids under 24 years of age.  It’s a supportive environment with all kinds of services to get the kids in a better place in life and off of the street.  They have a kitchen to provide breakfast, lunch and dinner to the kids, cozy couches, an education room, clothing “closet”, and much more.  We’re collecting change in our bakery donation box, as well as will be volunteering next week.

Just like last year, we’ll be making lunch for the kids next Wednesday, August 20th, 2014, from 10:30am to 12:30pm.  We have room for up to 7 volunteers, so if you’re interested in joining us, email Emily at info@flourandco.com.  We’ll sign you up and send more details.

Thanks to everyone who continually supports our Raising Dough efforts.  It’s so nice to come together as a community for these wonderful organizations.
